Here is the 5th faceplate. It still needs some sanding. It makes me smile, though partly just out of an associated memory.

I am looking into having Inkling cast professionally… though I don’t know yet if I will, or what the order of operations will be.
I am having a hard time with the “concept” of outsourcing production… I feel like it’s cheating. I know it isn’t, and if I have her professionally cast, it means that I can produce more and more people can own her. I like that. However, I feel like my hands should touch every step of the process. I am extremely anal-retentive and a bit of a control freak (as if anyone didn’t know this), so I don’t know if I can handle giving the reins over to someone else and trust that they will be as nitpicky as I would be.
I am thinking that if I end up liking the answers I get from the casting group I’m talking to now, I will most likely make my own molds and fulfill the preorders myself. I also will also cast a “production master” which I will send to be cast. I am not entirely confident with sending my only masters overseas, so this is the best solution I can think of.
The positives of this would be that I could have a general edition in normal colors that I could sell through preorders… but I could also make hand-cast dolls when I felt like it in unusual colors or with interesting inclusions or special effects in the resin. It would also mean that if people wanted a hand-cast doll, the opportunity would be there for them.
