Almost Doll

Filed under: Pictures — armeleia @ 7:32 pm

Mandy and I entered Almost Doll just for the hell of it… mostly because I wanted to do a faceup on a human and make resin rose jewelry in human scale. It’s really huge.

Mandy’ll be posting her pics… which are cooler. I liked how I painted her eyelashes and did her lips. Her jewelry also was way better.

Smirkyface + Thoughts

Filed under: Pictures, Sculpting — armeleia @ 9:17 pm

Here is the 5th faceplate.  It still needs some sanding.  It makes me smile, though partly just out of an associated memory.

I am looking into having Inkling cast professionally… though I don’t know yet if I will, or what the order of operations will be.

I am having a hard time with the “concept” of outsourcing production… I feel like it’s cheating.  I know it isn’t, and if I have her professionally cast, it means that I can produce more and more people can own her.   I like that.  However, I feel like my hands should touch every step of the process.  I am extremely anal-retentive and a bit of a control freak (as if anyone didn’t know this), so I don’t know if I can handle giving the reins over to someone else and trust that they will be as nitpicky as I would be.

I am thinking that if I end up liking the answers I get from the casting group I’m talking to now, I will most likely make my own molds and fulfill the preorders myself.  I also will also cast a “production master” which I will send to be cast.  I am not entirely confident with sending my only masters overseas, so this is the best solution I can think of.

The positives of this would be that I could have a general edition in normal colors that I could sell through preorders… but I could also make hand-cast dolls when I felt like it in unusual colors or with interesting inclusions or special effects in the resin.  It would also mean that if people wanted a hand-cast doll, the opportunity would be there for them.

Kani and Kana

Filed under: Pictures — armeleia @ 8:38 am

I took a picture of the twins to enter in the Peakswoods photo contest.

I don’t remember if I’ve ever posted them… but I totally fell in love with them when they were released.   I wish they were tan, but I love them as the twins.  They fit so much better than the Dreaming Picolos ever did.

There are some really cool entries to the photo contest -  There are some awesome antique-y postcard entries that I think will win easily.

Inkling, Final Stringing Test

Filed under: Pictures, Sculpting — armeleia @ 11:14 pm

Okay, I think that the stringing is as good as it’s going to get… so here on out, it’s all surfacing and making things look a little nicer, like tidying up the stringing slots and making the faceplates fit flush.

So here are the pics.

(Honesty compells me to admit that she has a little bit of sticky tack under her front foot to steady her.)

(Pouty face!)

I’ll start tallying up what I need to produce her… and tomorrow I’ll post preorder information for the first small test run.  I need…

1.  Silicone (leaning toward a plat-sil)

2.  Task 3

3.  Compressor

4.  Nylon rod for cores

5.  Magnets for her head

6.  Dyes!

I’m pretty excited.  But the week or so of sanding ahead is not appealing.  Blegh.

Oh, and she currently has no sculpted bellybutton.  It was in the wrong place, so I filled it in… and haven’t re-carved it.

A pic from yesterday…

Filed under: Pictures, Sculpting — armeleia @ 8:59 pm

Worked till 7 tonight.  I think I’m fried.

Here’s a pic from yesterday… you can see where I’m building up around the knee to make a tighter fit… and again, with a tiny for size reference. :)

I want to make a boy.

Also, pics of New!Shai.  Shai is now an Infinitidoll Chris.  I think it gets across the sexy professor a lot better.

I need to take clearer pics.  He has one eyebrow down a bit and the other quirked.  Hey baby.

Slinky Neko Borry.  So cute. <3

I haven’t chosen her name yet, but am leaning toward something very sweet like Caramel, Marzipan, Creme Brulee…. something like that.

Better pics soon.

The Antagonist.

This is The Antagonist, the main character from my NaNoWriMo piece from 2009.  These were more going for a mood than trying to show him off.  He’s been here since the beginning of December, but only just got to a point where he was complete enough to photograph.  He still needs a correct pair of eyes – these were not the color I thought they were.  Pink rather than red.  Blah.  This look is based on his appearance in the second (not yet written) half of the story.

He’s a very yellowed 43cm Classic Narin.  The yellow is not a bad thing in his case – I actually sought out an old, yellowed french resin doll because the character is described as having a complexion like yellowed paraffin that bruises easily.  I am very fond of him… and have only narrowly stopped myself from taking him to work with me when I’ve anticipated a rough day.

(Here’s one of these pics in color if you’re interested in how yellow he actually is.  The yellowing is even, though.)
