DoA Debate Thread Format

OP: [Presents a question with a clear moral 'right' and 'wrong' answer.]
Side 1: [Morally sound answer]
Side 2: [Morally questionable answer]
Side 1: :(
Side 2: [Righteous justification]
Side 1: Dude, that’s just not cool.
Side 2: [Insert appropriate "It's hypothetical/just a doll/just the internet/fantasy/John Stamos/stickin' it to The Man" rebuttal]
Side 1: …wtf, ewww.
Side 2: DON’T JUDGE ME YOU NARROWMINDED DICKHEAD! You obviously just [select one: a) are a Volks elitist b) can't distinguish fantasy from reality c) are taking this too seriously d) are a Nazi]
Side 1: *hiss*
Side 2: OPPRESSSSHUNNNNNNN!!!!! LOVE ME FOR MY BAD BEHAVIOR!!
Random Person: I’m sure they didn’t mean it, you don’t have the right to judge them based on what they themselves have clearly admitted about their own character/interests/motives.
Side 2: Yeah, since you’re no better. I know you [are dishonest/are perverted/secretly think the same thing], at least I’m honest about it.
Side 1: *blank look* [Righteous indignation and defense of morals.]

((INSERT TOTALLY TANGENTAL CONVERSATION ABOUT LOOSELY RELATED SUBJECT SPURRED ON BY EITHER A POOR ANALOGY OR A REALLY BIZARRE COMMENT, USUALLY CITING WIKIPEDIA, MSN, OR AN EASILY GOOGLED STATUTE NUMBER.))

Rational People from Both Sides: …wtf?
Random Person: Um… getting back on topic sort of kind of, here is my vague opinion to try to dispell the crazy awkwardness and lingering WTF.
Side 2a: …I didn’t mean it anyway. I was [select one: just kidding/playing devil's advocate/really tired when I posted that.].
Side 2b: I’M A DEVIANT AND I LIKE IT THIS WAY DON’T JUDGE ME YOU NARROWMINDED PURITANICAL NUTJOBS. [Reprise of prior arguments and attempts to discredit opposing viewpoint.]
Side 1: ………freeeeeeeakshow….
Side 2: ….
Random Person: Here is another, rather ridiculous, angle to this question that makes Side 2 seem more ethical…
Side 2: Oh, yeah. YEAH! That!
Side 1: …no. [Reprise of moral background]
Side 2: [Reprise of prior justifications and attempts to discredit opposing viewpoint]
Side 1: [lather]
Side 2: [rinse]
Side 1: [repeat]
LOCK.

I know it’s probably like this on most internet forums, but it sure seems like the last few thread I’ve looked at in debate go like this. .. give or take an invocation of Godwin’s law.

However, it’s been great for letting people out themselves… as Zag pointed out, it’s definitely been very eye-opening. Disappointing. A couple years ago when this issue came up, pretty much everyone was opposed to keeping the mistake. Now not only do people say they’d keep the doll, but they get uppity when other people seem to be judgemental or unwilling to transact with them in the Marketplace. I tell you, dude, I definitely have a list going in my head of people who I have no desire to transact with from reading GD and Debate threads. People who condone knockoffs, scalping, stealing… heck, people who spit-wash their dolls faces.

Sure, maybe these people wouldn’t ever steal something in real life. But the thread is more illuminating in some ways than that – it shows who lacks common sense, who doesn’t understand the community’s “culture,” who flies off the handle when people disagree with them, who is seriously entitled, and who can go to great lengths justify bad behaviors.

Oh, btw, I’m referring to this thread.

I didn’t post a single daisy. Which isn’t to say that there wasn’t one like this burning in the back of my brain.

Cripes, I have so many packages to mail today after work. I think I have…6? Maybe 7.

I want to go to the bead shop near my house to get some little swarovski crystals and findings so I can finish the jewelry sets I’m making for Lacey and Versai to wear to Dolpa. Unfotunately, they close at 6 and I work late tonight….

I’m starting to buckle down and really try to study for the Series 66. I need to, as I’m scheduled to take it on June 30th. I’m not really interested in the content, though… and I’m finding the same frustration with the study guide that I had with the study guide for the Series 7; the content of the chapters seems to be in a random order and it doesn’t coordinate with the chapter outlines that they give you in the “Hot Sheets” section. Annoying. There’s much less content on this one, but it seems as though the questions will be nitpicky. As in, was this obscure, only-identified-by-number rule established by the Securities Act of 1933 or 1934, and what percentages of whatever constitutes whatever status? Not overly fun studying and definitely not a rivetting read!

I don’t feel very good today. I am having an allergic reaction to something, and I have hives on my neck and my right eye is swollen. I’m kinda spacey and blah, and I caught myself thinking ahead to Dolpa and going “Hm. Maybe I can dress up as Captain Cecil with an eyepatch if the swelling hasn’t gone down.” (Wrong eye, though, and I’m sure this’ll be fine by then!)

Last night I worked on commissions and started on the armature for Versai’s new hands. I decided to try a more organic approach and I’ve made little finger bones on wire. I’ll stick them into a flat “palm” piece tonight, then pose the fingers appropriately… then it’ll just be a matter of sculpting the fingers themselves over it. Hopefully it’ll help with proportioning, posing, and support. I really want to get back to working on Gelf and Fawn, but I don’t really have time at the moment. Maybe I can steal a few minutes to sand fawn tonight Mostly I need to sand the back and top of her head, then I can cut the head open and start making the headcap mechanism. I think it’ll be a simple magnet one. I find I get annoyed with twist-off headcaps.

Been hearing the the economic stimulus checks are not what the government originally led us to think that they are. When I’d read the notice originally, I’d been under the impression that if you made over a certain (I thought rather low) amount of money, you would automatically get $600. It seems now that people are getting less than that, and it could be “up to $600″ instead… it sounds as though you need to make over $35k to get the $600. Looks like I’ll be getting $325…? That’s a serious disappointment. At the current gas prices, I can’t even fill my tank 10 times with that. IRS, you are a horrendous cocktease. If it were possible to bitchslap and entire government department, I would.

But on to happier things, I suppose. Dolpa is just over a week and a half away! I have a ton of plans, too, for once… I just can’t wait to see everyone!

What American accent do you have?
Created by Xavier on Memegen.net

Northern. Whether you have the world famous Inland North accent of the Great Lakes area, or the radio-friendly sound of upstate NY and western New England, your accent is what used to set the standard for American English pronunciation (not much anymore now that the Inland North sounds like it does).

If you are not from the North, you are probably one of the following:
(a) A Southerner who hates Southern accents and tries really hard to “talk right”; or
(b) A New Yorker or New Jerseyan who doesn’t have the full accent

Take this quiz now – it’s easy!
We’re going to start with “cot” and “caught.” When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

Puki Aang has shipped! :D

His leetle costume is 3/4ths made (just need to make his little capelet when he gets here), and he should be able to come to NY with me!  Hurrah!  This comedy of errors is hopefully finally coming to a close! :D :D :D

I can’t decide who to bring…

Filed under: Blah blah blah... — armeleia @ 8:03 pm

To Dolpa, I mean.  I am most likely bringing Lacey (Kurenai) because she’s cute and portable, not to mention the only doll in this house with boobs.

But for a big doll, I can’t decide between Rory, Shai-lai and Crash.  I want to bring Rory because he is my first big doll and I adore him… he’s also freshly modded with a new faceup and a cute outfit.  Shai-lai is Shai-lai, and what’s not to love?  Crash makes me happy and he’s gorgeous, has nice summery clothes and a new piece of jewelry and new wig…. but since he’s tan, I worry about scratching him. ._.

Graaaah.

Underneath it all.

Filed under: Pictures — armeleia @ 10:18 pm

Okay, for Utena fans this is sort of a gem among AMVs on Youtube.  (Though this remains my favorite feel-good video with good timing.)

I received a lovely gift from a friend…. or more accurately, Crash received a lovely gift from a friend.  A lovely custom-made necklace by orangebabydolly.  Isn’t it a wonderful piece?  (And isn’t Crash gorgeous in his new wig?  So much nicer than the old one.)

I had planned to do a shoot for Crash and Swill to the theme of “Underneath it All” but now that songs has been shoved out of my head by the AMVs I linked.  Though I was introduced to a song today that is a GREAT mood song for Crash.

Nope.

In the light of day after having washed it, I’ve decided that no, I don’t like this haircut. It’s too blended, pretty much like I’d asked her not to do… It’s just something hairdressers do, though.  Mandy has always had the same problem when she tries to get her odd, razored, layered style.  I dunno who you go to get modern, choppy haircuts, I really don’t.  It’s also still too long on the top. My opinion is also not helped by the fact that the product I have right now isn’t what I need to do what I want, so I can’t get it to sit right. The blending thing can’t be helped right now and will have to wait until it grows in a little. I think Meghan is coming over to finish Mandy’s hair tonight, so I’ll ask her to cut the top a bit more.

Therese says to just buzz it, and maybe I will. ;)

Hm.

Well, my hair is highlighted and cut… not sure how I feel about it yet.  I think when it has about a week’s growth, I’ll feel better about it.  It’s not that it’s too short, it’s more than it’s not quite shaped how I’d pictures in the front.  (It has short bangs that I had expected to angle more, but they are fairly uniform in length… though not blunt).  It’s a very cute pixie style, though, and worst case scenario, if I decide in the morning that I don’t like it… it’s just hair and will grow back. ;)

Help: Need photos of cute pixie cut hairstyles. ;)

Filed under: Blah blah blah..., Meeting People — armeleia @ 9:20 am

I’m still waffling on whether or not I will cut my hair short tonight.  At this point, it’s just shy of reaching my shoulder… and I had been planning to grow it out, but I find myself going “Well, why?  You’ll just put it back when it gets long anyway, so what’s the point?”  Tentatively, I am planning to cut it shorter than I’ve ever had it, to a sort of raggy, razored pixie cut.  I haven’t been able to find any particularly good reference pics… if you are bored and feel like helping me, I would love it if people would send me pics of super short styles that you think are cool.  My email is armeleia at gmail dot com.

A couple weeks ago, I was writing to a friend that I was concerned because we hadn’t been getting very much rain.  April and May are the wet season where I live, so if we don’t get much rain early on I worry about droughts and ugly, crisped vegetation when summer comes.

Now it’s rained or been cold and damp everyday for about a week and a half.  I am getting so frustrated because it keeps ruining the faceups I try to do!  I just need a couple nice days in a row so I can finish things and send them out.  Everything that I have now has the mods finished, but is still awaiting faceup.

Last night we watched the recently released Avatar DVD.  It pretty much went as expected, though I did enjoy it very much.  I really enjoyed Zuko and Sokka in particular… but I wish that Aang would have gotten more screentime.  I baked some pumpkin bread while it was on, though it didn’t turn out too great.  I also did some handsewing for my incoming Puki Piki while we watched (after selling my Pikis I decided I couldn’t live without one)… I’d been feeling a little deflated about him the other night because it seems like everything is going wrong with him… but the sewing is going well so I feel very enthused again! :)  I can’t wait till he arrives.  I hope he makes it in time to go to the tea in NY with me, but I don’t know if he will.

I’m also going to be upgrading Lacey to an SDC body – so… is anyone interested in an MSD Ren girl hybrid? ;)

I’m also excited about the NY Tea because we actually have plans this year… I’m staying a little longer than usual (getting in Friday afternoon and leaving on Monday morning) so I have time to finally go to the Museum of Sex and to revisit the Museum of Modern Art.  The Tea itself will be fun, but I’m not planning to buy anything at the Tea itself, aside from water wax if they have it and possibly the Yo lottery.  I’m mostly going for the people.  I feel a bit weird because I haven’t been keeping up on the DoA discussion thread, but it seems to mostly be dominated by a small group of people… and I don’t really feel particularly welcome to join in.  Most likely it’ll be like last year, where I meet up with friends I already know and try to put aside social anxiety to try to meet some new people.  :)

Work is stressful.  We finished our annual CPA audit, but now we’re heading into our biennial regulatory audit.  That audit is a lot of work… and it means much overtime.  I say “overtime,” but I don’t actually get overtime pay because I’m salary now hurrah.

Speaking of, I should start getting serious about the accounting now.  *sigh*

Oh, btw, I did receive a wedding invitation this week.
