Apocalypse Now, photostory by Hitasura. (Read this one first, it’s the lead-in)

It’s the little things that make this photostory kick so much booty. First, there’s the set and the props. They’re minimalistic, but effective. Spartan. Then there are things like the motion blurs, cool angles/cropping and sound effections. And then we move on to appreciation of some of the the bigger things - like setting the staging area on fire.

This photostory is one of the coolest I’ve seen. <3

Andelis is a minstrel who follows a goddess of love and beauty. He feels that everyone should be shown love. He had a harsh upbringing in slavery, so to be protrayed properly, Jenova needed to find a doll that could also look solemn and introspective. She says that his faceup may be changed to a milder one in the future, but for now he wears the title of “Prettiest” out of her group.

CH Lain is one of the dolls who I fell instantly in love with, but didn’t have a character or funds for. I love seeing him well dressed, well loved, and well photographed.

Look at the lovely 4 sisters Syo by violet poem!

What a pretty faceup and beautiful eyes! I would probably like her more if her eyes were the same color, but the doll is gorgeous! The skin is so soft looking. She looks a little bit feverish, a little consumptive, maybe.

I also really like violet poem a lot… I couldn’t ever afford one of her heads, but I love to look at them in pictures!

Rose calme sold a few heads on Y!J early this year and I was really taken by them.  I don’t know why, exactly.  I really like the mouth and chin, though the eyes don’t do as much for me.  I’d love to see some of these on DoA, and really, I almost wish I could buy one myself.
I don’t know if she’s still producing heads or sculpting, since her blog hasn’t been updated since 2/7/06.

Cerberus Project Kid Delf Ani (White), owned by DoA’s Mabbit

Beatrix, an Ani owned by Mabbit, is a quiet little girl who enjoys playing by herself and exploring. Her owner says she’s strange.

This photoshoot is a really interesting mix of doll and nature. I like it because Beatrix is lovely, but she’s not always the focal point of the shot. Some pictures feature her as part of the background, and others have her off-center or only partially visible. Individually, the shots are nice… but all together, it makes for a really enjoyable viewing.

Also have to admit that the clothing gets me. Especially the Pinky St. button.

Volks Yo-SD Anne and Volks SD10 Kun, owned by DoA’s Haibane. Full shoot here.

Sol is a young mother at 19.  Her beautiful daughter, Liv, is about 3.  Their owner, Haibane, said that she doesn’t write much for them as far as biography, and prefers to tell their story in pictures.

Her photoshoots are intimate portraits in the lives of this mother-daughter pair.  The posing is both natural and beautiful… it really shows off how expressive these dolls can be.  The lack of text in the photoshoots also lets the viewer explore their own ideas about the characters and their relationship.  It’s very elegant and eloquent without words.
