I love pictures like this. Where they manage to look alive and self-aware, but still so small and fragile. This series of photos gives the feeling of a gray autumn day where there’s not much to do except think.
karamba says that her girl’s name is Alice. Alice is from a good family, but has a bit of a defiant streak and is eccentric like many teenagers are.
Thank you, karamba!

I have a weakness for red-haired dolls. (And men, but that’s something else entirely.) I notice, though, a lot of times people shy away from putting redheads in red or pink clothing, and stick instead with violet or green. I think red can look really awesome on redheads, and this photoshoot is no exception.
This lovely girl is one of the Art Delf Lolita Soonys offered a year or so ago.
Her character is still being worked out, so for now she’s mostly just a name (Noriko) and and a pretty face. ;) A very pretty face with a very pretty faceup. I’m sure, though, that when River comes up with a story for her she’ll be great.
Thanks, River!

Art Delf Freyja Miyu, owned by DoA’s needoll
Picture reposted with permission. [Source thread]
Art Delf Freyja Miyu was a full, outfitted doll offered by Luts, limited to 5 in the world. Her delicate, detailed faceup was done by Poppy.
needoll’s Miyu became a girl named Charlotte, the orphaned daughter of a rock legend. At this point, she’s looking for herself and a greater purpose in life.
This photoshoot features many large, beautiful pictures. The glow and soft focus is really wonderful… and the doll herself is gorgeous. Everything in the pictures is in scale and very elegant!
Thank you, needoll!

Y!J Link: http://page13.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/r39413133
I frequently troll Y!J for items listed as “junk.” This head was listed and started ridiculously low - when I first saw the auction, it was only at 7,000 yen. (About $55?). Happily, the price has shot up. This is a beautiful head!
I love the gauzey airbrush work and the long, soft eyelashes. The shape of the brows is very pretty as well!
The artist doesn’t have a webpage, so I am posting the pictures here directly for posterity. Here is the wigless pic.
Anyone have more information on this artist?

The art of photographing the Unoa has not been lost. :) It used to be that you could look through and easily find beautiful, sensually lit Unoa photos. It’s becoming rarer and rarer… which is which color-themed and sensitively composed shoots like this are really a delightful find.
I love the faerie tale-like color and feeling of these pictures… they could almost be illustrations to a children’s book about what can happen when young ladies stray too far gathering berries. The light is gentle and the Unoa herself is very pretty. Enfant_Cache has several other great Unoa shoots, all with delicate palette choices and carefully chosen moods.
I loved her description of her character: “It’s not that I’m having problems bounding with her; I love her more than any material thing I own! But putting her background story and character down on paper just seems a little hard for me. It’s like her essence stays the same, but all the describing details change slightly each day (a bit hard to explain).”Â
Thank you, Enfant_Cache!

This little Bambicrony is a pale treasure next to this oversized red flower… the One Flower to Rule Them All. I love Bambicronies, and I love when people make them look even tinier than they are. (I also love Gerbera daisies!)
Inari has a Bambicrony basic faceup. According to her owner, her personality is trouble. “She’s the half vampire daughter of Donovan (my Elf Yder vamp) and she’s really just a spunky little trouble maker who happens to be cute enough to get herself out of whatever trouble she does manage to get into.”
Thank you, Onnawufei!

This shoot is pretty awesome. It’s based on a paper that Djinn wrote for her honors research paper - “Unlocking the Dollhouse: Exploring Freud’s suppression of the uncanny doll and its female double.” Aside from sounding like a fascinating paper, this is a gorgeous, well-constructed photoshoot.
I asked Mae for more information on it, and I’m just going to paste her response rather than trying to recap it. This description goes with the pic that I reposted:
“This was the shot that made it onto the cover. The three main elements that we had to emphasise were “Olympia’s” femininity, her constructed doll nature, and the life-symbolising eyes that were removed from her being. The first was configured with her lips, her locks, and her, um, assets. For the second, her jointing had to be clearly visible, and a leg was disassembled, the foot with its s-hook just at the left edge of the frame. To fulfill the third condition, the eyes were kept in focus, the doll herself instead indistinct, identity lost to the eyes that Freud favoured above her. …Of course, we say all that, but mostly what happened was that we had ten minutes, Djinn threw a lot of stuff together and shifted bits back and forth frantically, I took a bunch of snaps from what I felt were the best angles, and she rushed off with the shots to put things in order for her submission.”
Thank you, Mae and Djinn!

This is another faceup like that Hagnos Michael… one that is beautiful but slightly disconcerting. I love the overall look of the faceup and the distant, lost expression of the doll… but it has those little details that are slightly worrisome. The thick, crisscrossing eyebrow hairs and that consumptive blushing. Love the lips. Charming, ill, and gorgeous.

Sleeping Elf Lishe, owned by DoA’s boudicca
Picture reposted with permission. [Thread with more pictures]
Lots of pretty things going on here: Faceup by Heavybomb, beautiful corset by Rebecca in FL, and makeup by Heavenly Creatures. This Lishe (and more jewelry) were features in the BJD Orbyrarium… in some of my favorite pictures in the whole thing. Heavenly Creatures is Boudicca’s jewelry design works - these intricate beadwork pieces use expert craftsmanship, well-scaled components and a nice balance of color.
This photo series is great. What’s not to like about a pretty elf in lingerie?
Thanks again, Boudicca!

This site has a lot of nice pictures, including owner pictures of a lovely Sleeping School A. They also have a really pretty Michele repaint. Michele is a doll who I’ve always regretted not buying. Every time I’ve ever seen one for sale, I hadn’t been at a point in my life where I could afford one. He seems to be the exception to my “I don’t like teeth” rule as well!
