Customhouse Lain, owned by DoA’s Jenova
Picture reposted with permission. LJ entries with more pictures: 1, 2
Andelis is a minstrel who follows a goddess of love and beauty. He feels that everyone should be shown love. He had a harsh upbringing in slavery, so to be protrayed properly, Jenova needed to find a doll that could also look solemn and introspective. She says that his faceup may be changed to a milder one in the future, but for now he wears the title of “Prettiest” out of her group.
CH Lain is one of the dolls who I fell instantly in love with, but didn’t have a character or funds for. I love seeing him well dressed, well loved, and well photographed.
Thank you, Jenova!

K-doll Kill_u 2nd head, make-up by Akira - owned by DoA’s flopium
Picture reposted with permission. [Thread with more pics]
Maybe it’s narcissistic, but I find I like to look for pictures of dolls whose sculpts I own. I recently got a Kill_U 2nd, so I’ve been looking for other owners’s pictures of this sculpt. There aren’t so many K-dolls on DoA! This Kill_u, Huang-Luo, is one of the prettiest ones I’ve seen. I love his smokey eyes and his shiney lips. In general, he’s just a beautiful doll!
Thank you, Flopium!

Original head, Aamu, by Jean on a CP Delf Girl body
Picture reposted with permission. [Thread with beautiful pictures]
Aamu is the second head that Jean has sculpted. She spent several months sculpting, polishing, and finishing her before casting her. Jean is also currently working on a third sculpt for a doll called “Reina.” (I actually love Reina even more! You can see Reina in the artist subforum on DoA, in this thread!)
All of her sculpts are lovely and well-crafted. They look so professional… and have wonderful lips and noses.
Thank you, Jean!

Avvelenato was one of the first faceup artists that I really fell in love with.

Lahoo and Tan Lahoo, owned by DoA’s whitebread.
Resized picture reposted with permission. [Thread with more pictures]
This is a really adventureous customization by whitebread - for her screenprinting final, she printed anatomical designs onto her two boys. To put it mildly, I think this is really, really cool.
When I asked her what her thoughts were and what her goals had been in the project, she said: “I took a course titled “Freaks and Monsters” this semester which delt with the entire gamut of human freakery. Things like birth deformities and early medical practices that are quite horrible compared to modern standards. And one of the things that interested me was the old circus freaks. There weren’t just the people born different, there were also the people that made themselves different for whatever reason. Today we have the “Bodyworlds” exhibition with preserved human bodies. Studying how the west has gone through its various stages of infatuation and disgust with monstrosity and anatomy is kind of mind blowing. We’re coming out of a repressed phase regarding our dealings and feelings toward death and going into a gross fascination with it again.
Especially with ABJDs, dolls have become more like us and more stylized. We project human emotions and thoughts onto them, so why not some human anatomy? Even though they look like us, their bodies would be odd and even freakishly out of proportion if we saw them life sized.”
Which is interesting on a lot of levels - I think that the closer a figure is to human scale, the closer it needs to be human proportion. Otherwise we’re delving deeper into the land of the uncanny valley. Anything with deformities, etc, really does, which ties into that idea of freaks, deformity, and to some extent, the way we stylize the human face and figure. At any rate, I’m really thrilled to see a project with so much thought and planning behind it - not only the execution of the techical aspects, but also of the ideas and concepts behind it.
Very awesome. I look forward to whitebread posting the more “official” pictures from her slides for class. I’ll post a link to those too when she does!
Thank you, whitebread!

Modded Souldoll Paris head on an Iplehouse Boy body, owned by DoA’s Katie_Raven
Picture reposted with permission. [Page on Atziluth]
Yves has been rather heavily modded. Katie_Raven modified basically all of the parts that she wasn’t so sure about- from the sounds of it, almost everything! She told me “He’s had a fair bit off his cheeks and jaw, some off his chin, I also changed his upper lip very slightly so that the cupid’s bow is less pronounced. I sanded a lot around his mouth area to get rid of the pouchiness. He’s had quite a lot off the nose; I got rid of the cute blobby bit on the end, straightened it and slightly narrowed the nostrils.” For more on how the Souldoll head goes with the Iplehouse body, you can see this post. :)
He’s very unusual and lovely, I think somewhat otherworldly in this picture. I love the light and how it picks out the individual threads of gauze… and highlights the muscles of his neck and his body under the shirt. He looks very self-possessed and ready to move. It’s really an awesome picture!
Thank you, Katie_Raven!

2005 CP Juri head, formerly owned by Armeleia
My pic, so of course I have permission. :)
This was one of my 2005 dolly Christmas cards. At this point, Juri didn’t have a body, so this was taken on a bottle of body spray. She was later traded to someone else, and I think she’s one of the only dolls I regret selling. Someday maybe I’ll get another 2005 Juri!

CP Sleeping Yder mod and CP Ani Mod, owned by Junkets. Photo by Armeleia.
My pic again, so of course I have permission to post it. :)
After seeing The Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D, this year we went into the realm of 3d photography for the 2006 cards! If you have a pair of the red-cyan anaglyph glasses, you can see this picture in pretty snazzy 3d!
Merry Christmas!

Gomidoll Igon + DoT boy body, owned by DoA’s St. James
Picture reposted with permission. [More pics here]
Striking Aaron St. James is shy, poorly educated, and hates his first name. He’s got some special abilities, but I leave it up to you to go research them at his page on atziluth. It’s interesting to see someone with a character who is poorly educated - how often does that happen?
I love Gomidoll Igon, and this one with his default faceup is stunning. With the simple clothing and plain, elegant hairstyle, he is very good at drawing a specific mood.
Also enjoyable, St. James posted the SissyMaid! Contest a couple months ago. It’s a contest among her household’s boys to see which looks best in… a frilly maid’s costume? Voting is closed, but the pictures are great. Thanks St. James!

This bunny ensemble is awesome. It looks like it’s a stole and little purse for Pocket Fairy. And wow, that is a cute little doll!
